Meet the team!

Minister - Coming Soon!

Following the departure in 2008 of Phil Hill, our Senior Minister, to work at the Nazareth Centre for Christian Studies, and the calling of Neil Blake to the pastorate at Blackmore Baptist Church in Essex, Hockliffe Street is in a period of ministerial vacancy.

At a special church meeting on Sunday 7th March 2010 the church extended a call, following a unanimous vote, to Peter Chilvers, currently Associate Pastor at Bethany City Church, Sunderland, to become our Pastor later this year. Although arrangements have still to be confirmed, it is anticipated that Pete will be formally inducted into the Pastorate in early September.

Until then the church will continue to be lead by the serving elders and our other team members, including those whose details are on this web-page.

Ian Watson - Chairman of Elders

Ian is married to Bronia and has two daughters who have grown up in the church. He has been worshiping at Hockliffe Street for over 15 years now and has been involved in the leadership of the church during the past 11 with a time as Treasurer before becoming an Elder. Ian has responsibility for the management and administrative oversight of the church but is also very active in the teaching sessions and often leads worship. Together with Bronia he loves to help young parents in the joys and trials of parenthood.

Ian relaxes with music (trombone); sport - cricket (Durham) and rugby (Northampton Saints) and his favourite food - jelly!

David Allsopp - Elder

David Allsopp is married to Sally and has four children aged 13 to 21.  He grew up in a church in Dunstable but felt called to look for a Spirit filled church that proclaimed Jesus as Lord. His search brought him to Hockliffe Street because it stands for a powerful and life-changing gospel. Since joining in 2002 he has become involved in a wide selection of activities. He takes an elders oversight for children’s work, music and outreach.  He teaches in Sunday School and often leads worship and wonders how best to communicate the joy of our new life to others.

Roger Edwards - Elder

Roger Edwards became a Christian in his late teens and has been at Hockliffe Street for the last 18 years.  Roger supports the church in the coordination of the Fellowship groups and takes special oversight of the pastoral structure and service.  Occasionally you may also see him leading worship and playing the guitar.  With Lynn his wife as church administrator, Daniel his son working at World Vision and Sarah (daughter) working in Romania on Christian service the family are grateful for all God’s blessings.

Rob Foot- Elder

Rob is married to Katy and has 2 boys. They have been at the Church since 1999. They grew up and became Christians in North West London. Rob loves watching motorsport, camping and photography. He has been on the Leadership Team since 2004 and oversees the Welcome Team and the Fabric Team. His wife, Katy, is the caretaker & cleaner for the Church.

Vacancy - Youth Worker

Our youth worker, Lauren Baker, left the church on 30th November 2009 to take up work in Northamptonshire.

Colin Johnson - Outreach Community Worker

Colin is married to Linda and they have 3 children, 2 of them now grown up. He works part-time for Hockcliffe Street Baptist Church as a Community Worker, this involves running a market stall on the Leighton Buzzard Tuesday Market, running a monthly coffee morning for elderly and visiting homes in the area. He is also involved with several other churches locally and helps in their community work and with a Christian charity called Counties.

Colin says: I was not brought up as a child to go to church but became a believer in Christ when I was in my mid 20s. I began to wonder if there was more to life than just material things and making money and was amazed when I realised who Jesus was and what he stood for; knowing Christ has revolutionised my life in so many ways. My hobbies include watching films, TV/cinema/DVD, reading fiction (Some recent authors I have enjoyed: Sam Bourne, Frank Peritti and Joe Abercrombie [The blade Itself]), visiting National Trust houses, listening to music (Duffey, Amy Winehouse, Chris Tomlin, Brian Houston, Osibisa, Sade, Stuart Townend are some of my favourites.), keeping fit (when I feel like it!).

Please see our web site at www.hopeonthestreet.com or visit us at Leighton Buzzard Market on Tuesdays.

Lynn Edwards - Church Administrator

Lynn is the first point of contact for most people calling the church office, as she works there as the secretarial assistant. Whether a call is to seek pastoral help, arrange a meeting, make a room booking, or just to catch up on news, Lynn will always try and help - although in a busy church like ours, sometimes it isn't possible to get exactly what you'd like first time!

Anne Hailes - Finance Assistant

Anne is the financial assistant, who keeps the bills paid and thus everybody happy. Anne also provides holiday and sickness cover when Lynn can't be in the office.
